David Lee Todd, age 87, a lifelong resident of West Chicago, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2023. He was born June 21, 1936, to Joe and Verdina (nee Mertes) Todd. David was united in marriage to the late Nancy (nee Patterson) Todd in 1956.
As a young boy, Dave began his work career at Day’s Service Station in West Chicago, from there Dave worked for Krumpholtz Motors as an auto mechanic. He then began his operating engineering career at Lockert’s Land Improvement Co., where he was a proud member of Local 150 for 55+ years. He retired in 1997 after working at the West Chicago blacktop plant for Harry W. Kuhn. Dave couldn’t seem to get the operating engineer out of him as he could be seen riding his green John Deere tractor all around the yard, even trying to race the ice cream truck.
Dave had a larger-than-life personality. His legacy will be the love of his family, especially his grandchildren and great-granddaughters, along with a belly laugh that could be felt for miles.
Survivors include two daughters; Deborah Todd of West Chicago and Sandra Hensel of Carol Stream. Three grandchildren; Alyssa Weidner, Cody (Brittany) Hensel, and Jacob Hensel. Two great granddaughters; Penelope and Violet Weidner and a brother Wayne Todd. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, three sisters; Perdetta Pagan, Bonnie Jordan, and Nancy France, and two brothers; Elmer and Joseph Todd. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. at Norris-Segert Funeral Home, 132 Fremont St., West Chicago. Pastor Sue Detterman officiating.
