WEST CHICAGO — Residents can now report suspicious activity and share public safety concerns anonymously through a new text messaging tool launched by the West Chicago Police Department.
The platform, known as tip411, allows individuals to send anonymous text tips directly to police by texting “WCPDtip” and their message to 847411. The system is operated by CitizenObserver and facilitates two-way, anonymous communication between tipsters and police.
The department also accepts anonymous web tips via email at policerecords@westchicago.org.
“This tool is expected to be an important information-gathering resource for the City of West Chicago,” said Police Chief Colin Fleury. “The tip411 system is 100% anonymous and designed to remove identifying information before it reaches police.”
Tip411 has seen successful implementation across the country, according to Terry Halsch, president of the service, who noted its role in helping law enforcement solve crimes and make arrests.
