Illinois Tollway Introduces New RFID St Tags for Convenient Toll Collection
In an effort to improve travel for drivers, the Illinois Tollway has introduced new RFID sticker for toll collection. These sticker tags, known as I-PASS Sticker Tags, were made available last week at Jewel-Osco and the Tollway headquarters on Jan. 26. They will also be available online for ordering by mid-February.
Don’t dispose of your transponder if you’ve got a sticker, According to officials, current transponders will remain active until their designated expiration date. As for what drivers should do after theirs reaches the expiration date, the Illinois Tollway has asked for them to be disposed of in an “environmentally sound way.” Residents can return them to the Illinois Tollway or go to the Earth911 website, search by “lithium-ion batteries” and enter your zip code to find available recycling locations.
Illinois Tollway Executive Director Cassaundra Rouse expressed excitement about the new technology, stating that the sticker tags mark the latest advance in toll collection. She emphasized that sticker tags are being adopted by toll agencies across the country for their convenience and reliability.
One key feature of the I-PASS Sticker Tags is their compatibility with the E-ZPass program, which includes 19 states across the US. This means that Illinois drivers can use the sticker tags for tolls in all of these states, making them a versatile option for frequent travelers.
Unlike traditional transponders, the sticker tags do not require a deposit fee. Additionally, drivers can link multiple stickers to the same I-PASS account, eliminating the need to move stickers between vehicles.
