A West Chicago city council member in the 7th Ward has decided to call it quits (John E. Jakabcsin) . A replacement is sought by the City of West Chicago. The resignation comes before a regular election is scheduled for the seat.
The City of West Chicago is currently accepting statements of interest for its vacant Ward 7 Alderman position. These statements should include:
- a brief summary of how your life experiences, education and/or professional background/expertise have prepared you to be an elected official in the City of West Chicago.
- why you are interested in serving as an Alderman for the 7th
- what areas of local government interest you most.
- any ways you have volunteered or otherwise contributed to the West Chicago community.
- any other information you believe we should know about you as we evaluate the candidates.
Mayor Pineda and the elected leadership will review the statements and determine who to personally interview for the position; the City Administrator will also join the interviews in case candidates have questions that are more suited for them to answer as Chief Administrative Officer.
After the interviews, the City will make a recommendation to the City Council, whose concurrence is required. Mayor Pineda is looking to fill this unexpired term by May 6, 2024. The person appointed would have an opportunity to run for election in the spring of 2025.
