DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced today that a West Chicago man charged with crashing into a vehicle head-on killing a man and seriously injuring his wife has been sentenced to ten years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Jaime Damian, 22 (d.o.b. 5/23/2002) appeared in Court this afternoon where he entered an agreed plea of guilty to one count of Aggravated DUI – Accident Causing Death (Class 2 Felony) and one count of Aggravated DUI – Great Bodily Harm (Class 4 Felony) in front of Judge Ann Celine O’Hallaren Walsh, who handed down the sentence. On December 12, 2023, Damian appeared in First Appearance Court where Judge Joshua Dieden granted the State’s motion to deny him pre-trial release. He has been in custody at the DuPage County Jail since that time.
On September 14, 2023, at approximately 1:25 p.m., Damian was driving his 2009 Honda westbound on Roosevelt Road east of Indian Knoll Road, when he crossed over a double yellow line into oncoming traffic and struck a 2004 Lincoln sedan. The occupants of the Lincoln were identified as Jose Correa, who was driving, and his wife Maria, who was a passenger. Firefighters extracted Jose and Maria from their vehicle and immediately transported the couple to a local hospital for medical attention. Damian was also transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Jose was later pronounced deceased at the hospital after succumbing to injuries he sustained from the crash. Maria suffered a broken wrist and bruises on her legs. Through the course of their investigation, officers learned that at the time of the crash, Damian had cocaine in his system.
“This afternoon, Jaime Damian learned that his decision to drive after he had been using cocaine will cost him the next ten years of his life,” Berlin said. “This cost however, pales in comparison to the price that Jose Correa’s wife, family and friends must now pay with just memories of Jose to comfort them and see them through the rest of their lives. The sad truth is that this tragedy, like all driving-impaired fatalities, was 100% avoidable had Mr. Damian not gotten behind the wheel that afternoon. I thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Katharine Walker and Sara Henley for their efforts in holding Mr. Damian responsible for the death of Jose Correa.”
Damian will be required to serve 85% of his sentence before being eligible for parole.

Jaime Damian, de 22 años (fecha de nacimiento: 23/5/2002), compareció ante el tribunal esta tarde, donde se declaró culpable de un cargo de DUI agravado: accidente que causó la muerte (delito grave de clase 2) y un cargo de DUI agravado: daño corporal grave (delito grave de clase 4) frente a la jueza Ann Celine O’Hallaren Walsh, quien dictó la sentencia. El 12 de diciembre de 2023, Damian compareció ante el Tribunal de Primera Instancia, donde el juez Joshua Dieden concedió la moción del estado de negarle la libertad previa al juicio. Ha estado detenido en la cárcel del condado de DuPage desde entonces.
El 14 de septiembre de 2023, aproximadamente a la 1:25 p. m., Damian conducía su Honda 2009 en dirección oeste por Roosevelt Road al este de Indian Knoll Road, cuando cruzó una línea amarilla doble hacia el tráfico que venía en sentido contrario y chocó contra un sedán Lincoln 2004. Los ocupantes del Lincoln fueron identificados como José Correa, que conducía, y su esposa María, que iba de pasajera. Los bomberos sacaron a José y María de su vehículo y transportaron de inmediato a la pareja a un hospital local para recibir atención médica. “Esta tarde, Jaime Damian se enteró de que su decisión de conducir después de haber consumido cocaína le costará los próximos diez años de su vida”, dijo Berlín. “Sin embargo, este costo palidece en comparación con el precio que la esposa, la familia y los amigos de José Correa deben pagar ahora con solo los recuerdos de José para consolarlos y ayudarlos a atravesar el resto de sus vidas. La triste verdad es que esta tragedia, como todas las muertes causadas por conductores en estado de ebriedad, era 100% evitable si el Sr. Damian no se hubiera puesto al volante esa tarde. Agradezco a las fiscales estatales adjuntas Katharine Walker y Sara Henley por sus esfuerzos para responsabilizar al Sr. Damian por la muerte de José Correa”.
Damian deberá cumplir el 85% de su sentencia antes de ser elegible para la libertad condicional.
