We proudly stand in solidarity with the dedicated men and women of the West Chicago Police Department, DuPage County Sheriff’s Department, and law enforcement agencies everywhere.

All the information we provide is derived from public records, with police reports accessible through the Freedom of Information Act.

DUI Arrests:

  • DUI Arrest – Route 59 and Ray Avenue

    On Sunday, March 16 at approximately 2:25 a.m., West Chicago officers initiated a DUI investigation at Route 59 and Ray Avenue. A black Chevrolet sedan with expired March 2022 registration plates was stopped while traveling northbound.

    The driver admitted to consuming alcohol. Officers observed signs of impairment, including bloodshot eyes and a strong odor of alcohol. Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs) were conducted, during which the driver displayed four clues on the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test, four clues on the Walk-and-Turn test, and one clue on the One-Leg Stand. The driver also swayed during testing.

    They consented to a Preliminary Breath Test (PBT), which returned a result of 0.146. Based on the SFST and PBT results, the driver was placed under arrest for DUI, handcuffed, and transported to the police department.

    At the station, after a 20-minute observation period, the driver provided a second breath sample that confirmed the earlier reading. They were officially charged with two counts of DUI and one count of Driving with Expired License Plates. The driver was released on a recognizance bond with an April 25, 2025 court date.

  • DUI Arrest – Roosevelt Road and Joliet Street

    On Monday, March 17 at approximately 12:41 a.m., West Chicago officers responded to a suspicious vehicle call in the parking lot of La Chiquita (133 Roosevelt Road). A gray Mercedes-Benz C320 with suspended registration was observed leaving the Twin Eagles Bar and was seen stopped in the middle of the road. The vehicle then made an illegal turn onto southbound Joliet Street and accelerated to 71 MPH in a 40 MPH zone.

    Officers conducted a traffic stop near Wilson Road. Upon approach, they observed the vehicle emitting a strong odor of alcohol. The driver and two passengers initially refused to exit the vehicle. After being warned, the driver exited. Officers observed bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and poor balance. The driver denied consuming alcohol but failed multiple Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs), including showing four clues on the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test.

    The driver was placed under arrest for DUI and transported to the police department. At the station, they refused a breath test and subsequently passed out on the bench before booking. Officers obtained a search warrant for a blood sample, which was drawn at 2:37 a.m.

    The driver was officially charged with DUI, Improper Turn, Improper Lane Usage, Registration Suspended for Non-Insurance, and Transportation or Possession of Open Alcohol by Driver. They were released on a recognizance bond with an April 25, 2025 court date. Their vehicle was towed from the scene and squad car inspections were completed before and after transport.

  • DUI Arrest – Roosevelt Road near the Luxury Car Outlet

    On Friday, March 21 at approximately 12:17 a.m., West Chicago officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of the Luxury Car Outlet near 601 W Roosevelt Road. A silver Chevy Malibu was observed reversing down a steep, elevated driveway. The vehicle had an expired registration and was stopped by officers nearby.

    Upon approach, officers detected a strong odor of alcohol from the driver and observed slurred speech. The driver lost balance while exiting the vehicle and admitted to consuming “a couple Jack and Cokes.” Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs) were conducted, and the driver showed six clues on the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test, six clues on the Walk-and-Turn test, and three clues on the One-Leg Stand. The driver swayed heavily throughout the process.

    At the station, the driver provided a breath sample of 0.204. They were charged with two counts of DUI and Improper Lane Usage. The driver was fingerprinted, photographed, and released on a recognizance bond with an April 25, 2025 court date. Their vehicle was towed from the scene, and squad inspections were completed before and after transport.

  • DUI Arrest Following Hit-and-Run Crash – Route 59 and Forest Avenue

    On Friday, March 7 at approximately 8:33 p.m., West Chicago officers responded to a report of a hit-and-run incident near Route 59 and Forest Avenue involving a Chevrolet Malibu. DuComm dispatchers tracked the vehicle’s path, and responding officers located it with visible driver-side damage at a Shell station on 184 North Avenue.

    Upon initiating a traffic stop, officers observed the driver exhibiting signs of impairment, including slurred speech and inconsistent responses regarding their location and destination. The driver denied any involvement in a crash and initially refused to provide a breath sample or submit to further field sobriety testing after beginning the Walk and Turn.

    Officers detected indicators of impairment during the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. Based on these observations and the earlier crash report, the driver was placed under arrest for DUI and transported to the West Chicago Police Department. At the station, the driver later provided a breath sample registering a 0.107 BAC.

    The driver was officially charged with two counts of DUI (including BAC over 0.08), Improper Lane Usage, Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Damage to Attended Vehicle. The vehicle was administratively towed with a 12-hour hold.

    After processing, the driver was released on a recognizance bond with a court date set for April 11, 2025. Due to medical concerns mentioned during booking, the driver was also transported to Central DuPage Hospital for evaluation.

  • DUI Arrest Following Crash at Route 64 and Powis Road

    On Wednesday, March 5 at approximately 6:13 p.m., officers responded to a traffic crash near Powis Court and Route 64. Upon arrival, officers found a white Ford Escape with a suspended registration and a red Mazda parked at the scene. Both vehicles had sustained damage consistent with a sideswipe incident.

    Officers determined that the Ford Escape, driven by an 18-year-old individual, had struck the Mazda while attempting to navigate a turn. The driver initially claimed they were simply turning onto Route 64, but after further questioning and comparing statements from both parties, officers concluded that the driver had improperly maneuvered and caused the crash.

    Officers detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver, who eventually admitted to “drinking at school earlier.” Field sobriety tests were conducted. The driver exhibited four clues of impairment during the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test, four clues during the Walk and Turn test, and one clue during the One-Leg Stand test. A Preliminary Breath Test (PBT) produced a reading of 0.090.

    The driver was placed under arrest for DUI, transported to the police department, and later provided a breath sample of 0.078 after the required observation period. They were also issued a Zero Tolerance Warning for being under the age of 21.

    The driver was officially charged with one count of DUI, Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident, and Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle. They were released on a recognizance bond with a court date set for April 11, 2025. After processing, the individual was transported to a relative’s home.

    The vehicle was towed, and squad 335 was properly inspected before and after transport. A school resource officer was notified due to the driver’s age and student status.

  • Driver Arrested for DUI After Traffic Stop on Burr Oaks Drive

    On Saturday, March 22 at approximately 9:10 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop near the 800 block of Burr Oaks Drive in West Chicago. The driver, a 22-year-old individual, was observed driving with no valid license and in the wrong lanes of traffic. The driver later admitted to drinking two beers earlier in the night and displayed signs of impairment during the encounter.

    A Spanish-speaking officer from Wheaton Police Department was called to the scene to assist with translation. Officers explained the situation to the driver, who agreed to participate in field sobriety testing.

    The driver exhibited four clues of impairment during the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test, five during the Walk and Turn test, and three during the One Leg Stand test. A Preliminary Breath Test (PBT) produced a result of 0.129. Following proper procedures, the driver was arrested for DUI and transported to the police department, where a breath sample of 0.111 was recorded.

    During inventory of the vehicle, officers located two empty cans of Modelo. The vehicle was towed from the scene and secured.

    The driver was officially charged with two counts of DUI, Improper Turn, Improper Lane Usage, No Valid License (Major), Illegal Transportation or Possession of Open Alcohol by Driver, and Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle. After fingerprinting and paperwork, the individual was released on a recognizance bond with a court date scheduled for April 11, 2025. They were picked up at the police station by a parent.

  • DUI – 3/2/25 – Route 59 & Browning Way
    On Sunday, March 2 at approximately 9:19 p.m., West Chicago officers initiated a traffic stop near IL Route 59 and Browning Way after observing a silver Infiniti traveling 63 MPH in a 45 MPH zone and nearly striking a curb. The driver admitted to drinking earlier in the evening at a friend’s house but claimed it was “not too much.”

    Officers noted signs of impairment, including a strong odor of alcohol and bloodshot eyes. The driver agreed to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs) and showed four clues on the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test, two clues on the Walk and Turn test, and one clue on the One Leg Stand test. The driver also counted out of order during the final test.

    A Preliminary Breath Test (PBT) result registered at 0.134. The driver was taken into custody and transported to the West Chicago Police Department, where a breath sample of 0.141 was obtained.

    The driver was charged with two counts of DUI, speeding over the statutory limit, and improper lane usage. They were released on a recognizance bond with an April 11, 2025 court date. The vehicle was towed by Deluxe, and the squad car was properly inspected before and after transport.

  • Violation of Order of Protection – Roosevelt Road

On Saturday, March 21 at approximately 9:17 a.m., Officer Frommer was on patrol in West Chicago when they observed a vehicle passing them on Joliet Road. Upon closer inspection, Officer Frommer recognized the passenger, David Calderon, who was under an order of protection from several family members.

The vehicle was observed making a U-turn and continuing on Roosevelt Road. The officer conducted a LEADS inquiry on the driver, confirming that they were in violation of the order of protection. When the officer stopped the vehicle, David was found seated in the front passenger seat without wearing a seatbelt.

Upon activating emergency lights, the driver stopped, and David was asked for identification. After refusing to provide identification, David was placed under arrest for violating the order of protection. During a search, officers found a “Muha Meds” cannabis package in David’s pants pocket. The cannabis was not in an approved container for transport.

David was charged with violating the order of protection, obstructing identification, possession of cannabis in a motor vehicle, and not wearing a seatbelt. The cannabis was inventoried, and David was transported to DuPage County Jail.
