WEST CHICAGO, IL — A local grassroots organization, WeGo for the People, has called for a peaceful assembly outside West Chicago City Hall tonight, Monday, May 19, beginning at 5:45 p.m. The demonstration is intended to coincide with the Public Affairs Committee meeting at 6:15 p.m. and the City Council meeting scheduled for 7 p.m.
In an email distributed to supporters, WeGo for the People urged residents to gather and make their voices heard, expressing concerns over what they describe as political obstruction from legacy members of the city council. The group says the ongoing dispute over the city administrator’s position is detracting from meaningful progress on revitalization and transparency.
“With the legacy city council members seeming to want to stonewall Mayor Bovey despite an overwhelming electoral victory, it’s difficult to feel like our voices are being heard,” wrote Jonathan Wolf, chairman of WeGo for the People, in the invitation.
The group emphasized that the gathering is not intended to be confrontational. Rather, they seek to show support for Mayor Daniel Bovey and his authority to select a new city administrator. “We don’t want a fight. We want everyone to work together,” the email stated. “We voted for change.”
Organizers are encouraging participants to make signs and attend respectfully. Suggested slogans include:
- WeGo Voted for Change
- City Hall Works for the People
- Work Together, Not Against
- Our Community Deserves Better
- WEGO Together
- Represent Your Residents
Residents are invited to attend to voice their concerns and remind elected officials who they serve. The group has also provided a Facebook link to the event and a contact email at info@wegoforthepeople.org for questions.

Grupo Comunitario Convoca Asamblea Pacífica Esta Noche Frente al Ayuntamiento de West Chicago

WEST CHICAGO, IL — Una organización local de base, WeGo for the People, ha convocado una asamblea pacífica esta noche, lunes 19 de mayo, frente al Ayuntamiento de West Chicago, comenzando a las 5:45 p.m. La manifestación está programada justo antes de la reunión del Comité de Asuntos Públicos a las 6:15 p.m. y la reunión del Concejo Municipal a las 7 p.m.
En un correo enviado a los residentes, WeGo for the People alentó a la comunidad a reunirse para expresar su voz, en medio de crecientes tensiones políticas con miembros del concejo municipal. El grupo denuncia que los concejales de la administración anterior están obstaculizando al nuevo alcalde, Daniel Bovey, a pesar de su rotunda victoria electoral.
“Con los miembros del concejo municipal tratando de bloquear al alcalde Bovey, es difícil sentir que nuestras voces están siendo escuchadas”, escribió Jonathan Wolf, presidente del grupo.
El mensaje subraya que el objetivo no es el conflicto, sino mostrar apoyo al alcalde y su derecho de designar a un nuevo administrador municipal. “No queremos una pelea. Queremos que todos trabajen juntos. Votamos por un cambio”, expresa el comunicado.
Los organizadores piden a los asistentes que participen pacíficamente y, si lo desean, traigan pancartas con lemas como:
