GLEN ELLYN, IL — Residents interested in conservation, ecology, or simply enjoying the great outdoors are invited to take part in a free walking tour through Churchill Woods Forest Preserve on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. This unique educational event is hosted by DuPage County Stormwater Management (SWM) in collaboration with the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County.
The tour, titled Nature’s Resurgence: Churchill Woods Restoration Tour, offers a behind-the-scenes look at one of the region’s most ambitious environmental revitalization efforts. Attendees will witness firsthand how a once-damaged ecosystem was transformed following the removal of a historic dam and the extensive restoration of surrounding wetlands.
Led by expert guides from SWM and the Forest Preserve District, the tour will spotlight the biodiversity now thriving in the revitalized habitat. Participants will learn how wildlife has returned to the area and hear about the challenges and victories experienced by government agencies and local volunteers over the course of this 15-year-long restoration initiative.
The walking tour also highlights the lasting impact of local stewardship and landscape management, offering a powerful reminder of how community-driven conservation can successfully restore natural spaces.

El recorrido, titulado Resurgimiento Natural: Recorrido por la Restauración de Churchill Woods, ofrece una mirada privilegiada a uno de los esfuerzos de revitalización ambiental más importantes de la región. Los asistentes podrán observar de cerca cómo se transformó un ecosistema anteriormente dañado tras la remoción de una histórica represa y la restauración de los humedales circundantes.
Guiados por expertos del SWM y del Distrito de Preservación Forestal, los participantes conocerán la biodiversidad que ahora florece en este hábitat revitalizado.
