Village Theatre Guild Opens Summer Run of Rebecca Gilman’s The Crowd You’re in With

Fire up the grill and pour a glass of sangria—Village Theatre Guild is kicking off summer with a thought-provoking comedy that takes place at a backyard Fourth of July barbecue in Chicago.

Rebecca Gilman’s The Crowd You’re in With opens Friday, May 23, for a 12-performance run through June 14. Set on the porch of a two-flat, the play follows three couples as they grapple with major life decisions—from whether to have children to the deeper implications of friendship, free will, and unspoken truths. As the night wears on, polite conversation gives way to real talk, testing the bonds that hold the group together.

Directed by Lynn Walsh and produced by Maureen Komperda, the production features a dynamic cast:

John Vinopal as Tom, Jackie Meara as Karen, Rich Kropp as Dwight, Joe Canna as Dan, Jessica Scobey as Windsong, Tony Lage as Jasper, and Stevie Koch as Melinda.

Opening Night is already sold out, with just one ticket remaining for Sunday’s matinee. Best availability this weekend is for Saturday’s 7:30 p.m. performance. Tickets are $25 and can be reserved at villagetheatreguild.com.

Performances take place at Village Theatre Guild, located near the northwest corner of Butterfield Road and Park Boulevard in Glen Ellyn. Free parking is available.

This production is made possible with support from Arts DuPage, a DuPage Foundation initiative, and is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council. For more information, visit artsdupage.org and arts.illinois.gov.
