Carolyn Middleton (nee Strampp), of Wheaton, Illinois, passed away peacefully with her children at her side on July 27, 2024 after suffering a stroke. Carolyn was born on November 21, 1942, in Chicago. She obtained her High School Diploma from the Academy of Our Lady (Longwood) and became a Registered Nurse after completing nurses training at St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in 1962. In 1965, Carolyn met and married Charles Middleton, M.D. They moved to Recife, Brazil to serve in the Peace Corps. They later settled the family (including three children) in Boston, Massachusetts. In 1978, the family moved to Wheaton where Carolyn resided until her death. Carolyn worked as an RN in Chicago and Washington DC in the late 1960s. While raising her children, she was also a foster parent to more than a dozen infants. After raising children, she worked for the Illinois Department of Corrections as a nurse at Illinois Youth Center, Warrenville, from 1987 until her retirement in 2011.

Carolyn was loads of fun. She had a great sense of humor, loved telling and hearing hilarious stories, and never took herself too seriously. Carolyn was the picture of efficiency, competence, and punctuality. She had a practical and no-nonsense approach to all things and did not care for drama or pretentiousness. She was busy and fiercely independent until her final days. She played golf, was a member of several bridge clubs, and a book club, and had a group of fun, lively, and devoted lifelong friends, dating back to kindergarten. Carolyn was known as a fabulous cook and enjoyed preparing dishes and meals for any event. She was an avid reader, devouring books at an astonishing speed. Most of all, Carolyn was a loving wife, mother, and a devoted Grandma to her seven grandchildren, who she called “my darlings.” She was dependable, funny, loyal, generous, and kind to all who knew her. She will be forever missed.

Carolyn is survived by her three loving children, Amy (Bryan) Heinz, Brette (Peter) Tschurtz, and Peter Middleton, and seven grandchildren: Mason, Mitchell, and Heidi Heinz; Paul and Katie Tschurtz; and Lauren and Luke Middleton. She is also survived by her little brother Jim Lawrence and his wife, Peg; her beloved sister-in-law, Sharon Kincaid, and Peggy (Bob) Lonon; numerous nieces, nephews; and lifelong friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl Strampp and Signe and Leonard Lawrence, her brother Gerald Strampp, an infant daughter Jennifer, and her beloved husband Charlie.

Memorial visitation Tuesday, August 6th at St. Michael Catholic Church, 310 S. Wheaton Ave., Wheaton, at 9:00 AM, funeral mass following at 10:00 AM.
