The West Chicago Community High School varsity football team made history with a dominant 57-28 victory over Batavia, marking the first time the Wildcats have started 2-0 since 2003. Under the leadership of Coach Bob Stone, the team previously defeated Plainfield Central and now stands undefeated after two games.
The Wildcats set a school record with 622 total rushing yards, tying them for 14th in the state for rushing yards according to IHSA records. Offensive Player of the Week, quarterback Carter Naranjo (JR #2), led the charge with 12 carries, racking up 170 yards and scoring 4 rushing touchdowns. Senior running back Robert Lee (#34) had a standout performance, carrying the ball 21 times for an impressive 293 yards and 3 touchdowns. Wide receiver Tommy Doyle (#1) also contributed to the rushing attack, adding 84 yards on 6 carries and scoring a touchdown.
The Wildcats’ offensive line, comprised of seniors Ali Nassib (#77) and Angelo Jimenez (#55), and juniors Ean Arizmendi (#70), Marcos Estrada (#58), and Luis Rubio (#71), provided exceptional blocking, allowing the team to break records and dominate on the ground.
Defensively, the Wildcats were just as impressive. Defensive Player of the Week, outside linebacker Roman Zolota (JR #9), recorded 8.5 tackles and 1 sack. Inside linebacker Geoffrey Fleming (SO #33) added a fumble recovery, while cornerback Tommy Murphy (#5) snagged two key interceptions. Special Teams Player of the Week, Tommy Doyle (#1), also made his mark on defense, collecting 4 tackles and an interception.
Scout Team Player of the Week, Emanuel Lopez, contributed valuable preparation throughout the week, helping the Wildcats stay sharp for the big win.
This historic 2-0 start is a testament to the team’s hard work and determination as they look forward to building on this momentum throughout the season.
