A winter storm is forecast to sweep through the Chicago area from Sunday into Monday, potentially disrupting travel and bringing significant snowfall to parts of Illinois.
The National Weather Service (NWS) reported Friday that snowfall is expected to begin Sunday, with the heaviest accumulations anticipated south of Interstate 80, affecting central Illinois and Indiana. Forecasters noted that the exact track of the storm remains uncertain, with further updates expected as the system approaches.
“A winter storm will bring accumulating snow and travel impacts to the region early next week,” the NWS stated Friday morning. Meteorologists are continuing to monitor the system’s development, particularly the placement of the storm’s northern edge and the potential for lake effect snow in northeastern Illinois and northwest Indiana on Monday.
In the days leading up to the storm, temperatures are predicted to remain cold. Friday will be “blustery and cold,” with sunny skies and highs ranging from 21 to 25 degrees. Overnight lows will drop further, with temperatures between 19 and 22 degrees on Saturday. Sunday’s high is forecast between 21 and 28 degrees, with a slight warm-up Monday, reaching highs between 25 and 30 degrees.
Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates and prepare for possible travel disruptions as the storm develops.
