Sharing is Caring, WeGo!

West Chicago, Ill. — The National Weather Service has issued a Cold Weather Advisory for central, east central, north central, and northeast Illinois, including West Chicago, from 6 p.m. Sunday to 12 p.m. Monday.

Residents should prepare for dangerously low wind chills, which are expected to plunge as low as 20 to 25 degrees below zero. The extreme cold presents a heightened risk of frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.

The advisory warns of potentially life-threatening conditions caused by prolonged exposure to these severe temperatures. Officials are urging residents to limit outdoor activities and wear appropriate winter clothing, including hats, gloves, and layers, if venturing outside is unavoidable.

Local emergency management agencies recommend ensuring all heating systems are functioning properly and that extra blankets and warm clothing are readily available. Community shelters are prepared to assist those in need of a warm place to stay.

The extreme cold is forecast to last until noon Monday, after which conditions are expected to improve slightly. Residents are encouraged to check on neighbors, particularly the elderly and those with limited mobility, to ensure their safety during this frigid period.
