Protesters Rally in West Chicago in Support of Immigrants, Against Trump Policies

Sharing is Caring, WeGo!

West Chicago, IL – February 3, 2025 – A passionate group of demonstrators gathered this morning at the intersection of Route 38 and Route 64 in West Chicago, rallying in support of immigrants and voicing opposition to President Donald Trump. The demonstration, organized by Immigrant Solidarity DuPage, was part of a national movement called A Day Without Immigrants, urging participants to refrain from working, shopping, and sending their children to school as a form of economic protest.

As the crowd grew, with both Mexican and American flags waving through the air, chants of solidarity echoed among the demonstrators. Around 11:15 a.m., a spontaneous march ensued, with participants taking to Route 59, heading north in a powerful procession toward West Chicago City Hall.

Law enforcement quickly moved to escort the marchers, ensuring traffic control as they made their way onto Main Street. Along the route, the demonstration gained momentum, with additional residents joining in and cars and trucks honking in support. Spanish chants filled the streets, amplifying the energy of the protest.

By the time the march reached City Hall, the number of demonstrators had swelled to approximately 150 people. Some in the crowd began asking if Mayor Ruben Pineda would come out to address them, but they were informed that he was unavailable.

Immigrant Solidarity DuPage, in a statement shared on Facebook, called for collective action, declaring:
“Let’s teach Trump and the whole Yankee oligarchy the value we have: we don’t work, we don’t buy, and we don’t send the chamaquitos to schools. We have to be united—if only a few do it, it’s not worth it! United makes the strength!”

Despite the impromptu nature of the march, the event remained peaceful, with law enforcement facilitating the demonstration. As protesters gathered outside City Hall, their voices continued to resonate through the streets of West Chicago.

Today’s rally marks another wave of grassroots activism in the DuPage area, highlighting ongoing concerns about immigration policy and immigrant rights. Organizers vowed to continue their advocacy, urging local officials and community members to recognize the contributions of immigrants and stand in solidarity.

For now, the echoes of today’s march serve as a reminder of the power of collective action—and the determination of those fighting for justice.
