WEST CHICAGO — The West Chicago Parks Foundation is calling on the community to come together for a day of food, fun, and fundraising at the Children’s Sensory Garden Fundraiser, taking place on Saturday, June 1, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Hawthorne’s Backyard, 1200 W Hawthorne Ln in West Chicago.

The event will raise funds to install a Children’s Sensory Garden at Reed Keppler Park, a project created in loving memory of longtime West Chicago Park District employee Melissa Medeiros. The garden is envisioned as a peaceful and interactive space for children of all abilities to explore nature through touch, sound, scent, and sight—a tribute to Melissa’s dedication to the children and families of West Chicago.

Attendees can expect a full afternoon of activities and entertainment. Highlights include a hearty meal of Pulled Pork, BBQ Chicken, and a variety of side dishes, along with one complimentary drink ticket per guest. The event also features live entertainment in the form of a friendly and spirited volleyball match between WeGo Firefighters and Policemen, sure to delight attendees of all ages.

For those who love a little competition, there will be trivia games and raffles with fantastic prizes up for grabs. It’s an opportunity for the community to not only support a meaningful cause but to enjoy an afternoon of laughter, camaraderie, and remembrance.

“All proceeds from this event will go toward bringing the Children’s Sensory Garden to life,” said organizers, who hope the event will become a cornerstone of community collaboration and a lasting tribute to Melissa’s legacy.

Tickets can be purchased by scanning the QR code on event flyers or by visiting www.westchicagoparksfoundation.org for more information.
