BATAVIA — A man was arrested early Friday morning after two women and multiple children were held against their will inside a Batavia apartment.
Batavia police responded around 1:37 a.m. to a report of several individuals being held hostage in the 1200 block of East Wilson Street. Initial attempts to contact the occupants were unsuccessful, prompting officers to establish a perimeter, obtain a search warrant, and eventually open lines of communication with someone inside the apartment.
Authorities said they conducted a tactical entry to ensure the safety of the victims. Kerry C. Smith, 23, of Atlanta, was taken into custody at the scene. The Kane County Regional SWAT Team assisted in securing the area.
Although the occupants initially believed the suspect was armed, no firearms were found during a search of the apartment.
A woman was treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries and later released. Police noted the injuries were not related to the tactical entry.
Smith faces multiple misdemeanor charges, including violation of an order of protection, domestic battery causing bodily harm, and domestic battery through insulting or provoking contact. He was also wanted on active warrants from the Aurora Police Department and the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.
Police credited the assistance of the Kane County Sheriff’s Office and the SWAT Team for helping bring the situation to a safe conclusion.

También tenía órdenes de arresto activas del Departamento de Policía de Aurora y de la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Kane.
