Dear Editor,
I was in attendance for the anticipated, “CHANGING OF THE GUARDS” – The “Peaceful” transition of Power/Authority to the NEWLY ELECTED AND INSTALLED MAYOR – Daniel Bovey, in the City of West Chicago on Monday evening. What I saw was more of the same shortsightedness that has held this City in its Death Grip for the past 12 years – throughout the exiting Leaderships tenure. SHAME ON ALL OF THE ALDER PEOPLE OPPOSING the desires of the People of West Chicago. Their argument that the people in their wards were Happy with STATUS QUO of years gone by, could NOT be supported by any of them. To say that people were Happy when they weren’t given a choice to decide publicly, is in itself a rather poor statement. Just look, 4 other ward Councilpersons were challenged by 1st time politicians, people who felt inspired by the New incoming Mayor to run and offer a NEW VOICE to their constituents. What occurred was that EACH OF THESE NEWBIES WERE CHOSEN AND ELECTED BY THEIR PEERS TO SERVE – REGARDLESS OF THEIR EXPERIENCE. Not only did the EXITING MAYOR HIMSELF LOSE RE-ELECTION- but the DEPUTY MAYOR ALSO WAS PASSED ON BY HER CONSTITUENTS. Isn’t that statement enough that West Chicago wants change? To serve – takes great courage and commitment, shown by ALL of these current and past holders of these offices. They ALL deserve a BIG HAND and Loads of THANKS for their unselfish giving of their time and efforts. HOWEVER – to say that just because no other candidates felt the inspiration/courage/strength/ or need to step forward to enter the scary world of Politics & lead their wards, to say this is a statement of agreement as to what has been happening to this City – this comment is further evidence of a serious disconnect between what the Citizens of West Chicago want, and the miss direction of City Leadership in the recent years gone by.
FRIENDS – PLEASE JOIN ME IN OFFERING CONGRATULATIONS to Newly Elected & installed MAYOR DANIEL BOVEY – and to ALL of the City Council people whether NEW or existing members, YOU ARE the Leaders of the future of this WONDERFUL CITY – WEST CHICAGO – that so many of us have grown to love. Please let go of your past vision and embrace the Vision Mr. Bovey offers & is sure to bring to our community. The way I have always seen things is – you either are part of the SOLUTION or PART OF THE FAILED PAST. Either Climb aboard and lend your valuable energy, knowledge and spirit, or cheer from the sidelines, but DON’T LIE DOWN IN THE PATH OF THOSE WORKING TO MOVE THE CITY FORWARD. We ALL have choices – CHOOSE WISELY PLEASE! The “FUTURE’S SO BRIGHT – I GOTTA WEAR SHADES!”

Estuve presente en el esperado “CAMBIO DE GUARDIA”, la transición pacífica de poder/autoridad al recién elegido alcalde Daniel Bovey, en la ciudad de West Chicago el lunes por la noche. Lo que presencié fue la misma miopía que ha mantenido a esta ciudad bajo su control durante los últimos 12 años, durante el mandato del nuevo alcalde. ¡Qué vergüenza para todos los concejales oponerse a los deseos de los habitantes de West Chicago! Su argumento de que la gente de sus distritos estaba contenta con el statu quo de años pasados no tenía respaldo. Decir que la gente estaba contenta cuando no se le daba la opción de decidir públicamente es, en sí mismo, una afirmación bastante deficiente. Observen: otros cuatro concejales de distrito fueron desafiados por políticos primerizos, personas que se sintieron inspiradas por el nuevo alcalde entrante a postularse y ofrecer una nueva voz a sus electores. Lo que ocurrió fue que cada uno de estos novatos fue elegido por sus pares para servir, independientemente de su experiencia. No solo el alcalde saliente perdió la reelección, sino que la vicealcaldesa también fue rechazada por sus votantes. ¿Acaso no basta con afirmar que West Chicago quiere un cambio? Servir requiere gran coraje y compromiso, demostrados por todos estos actuales y antiguos funcionarios. Todos merecen un gran aplauso y un enorme agradecimiento por su generosa entrega de tiempo y esfuerzo. Sin embargo, decir que solo porque ningún otro candidato sintió la inspiración, el coraje, la fuerza o la necesidad de entrar al temible mundo de la política y liderar sus distritos, es una declaración de acuerdo con lo que ha estado sucediendo en esta ciudad, es una prueba más de la grave desconexión entre lo que desean los ciudadanos de West Chicago y la dirección errónea de los líderes municipales en los últimos años. AMIGOS, Únanse a mí para felicitar al recién elegido alcalde Daniel Bovey, y a todos los concejales, ya sean nuevos o antiguos. Ustedes son los líderes del futuro de esta maravillosa ciudad, el oeste de Chicago, que tantos hemos llegado a amar. Por favor, dejen atrás su visión del pasado y abracen la visión que el Sr. Bovey ofrece y que sin duda traerá a nuestra comunidad. Mi visión siempre ha sido la siguiente: o son parte de la solución o parte de un pasado fallido. O se suman y aportan su valiosa energía, conocimiento y espíritu, o animan desde la barrera, pero no se queden atrás en el camino de quienes trabajan para sacar la ciudad adelante. Todos tenemos opciones: ¡elijan sabiamente, por favor! El “¡El futuro es tan brillante! ¡Tengo que usar gafas de sol!”
