WEST CHICAGO — The City of West Chicago is inviting the public to a special celebration marking the installation of a new mural that pays homage to the city’s local heritage and the upcoming 100-year anniversary of West Chicago Community High School in 2026.
Created by Naperville-based artist Rich Lo, the vibrant mural features a stylized ukiyo-e–inspired depiction of the high school, drawing on traditional Japanese woodblock printing techniques. The mural is part of the broader Waves of DuPage: Beautiful Cities Public Art Project, a countywide initiative that showcases custom murals in each participating DuPage County community. The project coincides with the 2025 exhibit Hokusai and Ukiyo-e: The Floating World, hosted by the Cleve Carney Museum of Art from May 31 through September 21, 2025.
Residents are invited to attend the celebration on Friday, June 13, 2025, with remarks beginning at 5:00 p.m. The event will include light refreshments, brief presentations from community leaders and project partners, and a chance to recognize West Chicago’s unique contribution to this shared artistic endeavor.
