Students and staff at West Chicago Elementary School District 33 have a heartwarming reason to smile as they head into the new school year — the district has officially welcomed a four-legged member to the team! Meet Millie, a certified therapy dog who will be visiting schools throughout the district to provide emotional support, encouragement, and a bit of tail-wagging joy.
Millie, a gentle and lovable pup, belongs to Krissy Goebbert, D33’s new Director of Student Services. While Goebbert is new to the role, Millie wasted no time jumping into hers — quite literally — taking a seat at the conference table during a recent administrative planning meeting. With one paw confidently placed on the desk, Millie appeared to be fully engaged in the district’s back-to-school discussions.
Though she may not have a notepad or laptop, Millie brings something else to the table: calm, connection, and comfort. Her presence will help support students’ mental wellness and create a more inclusive, supportive environment for all.
District 33 is proud to embrace innovative approaches to student support, and Millie’s arrival is just one more example of that commitment in action. We’re confident she’ll be a favorite among students and staff alike — just don’t be surprised if she ends up with her own office one day.
