An effort to detain a man at the DuPage County Courthouse Friday morning left three sheriff’s deputies hospitalized, according to the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said the incident began just after 10 a.m., when a man was ordered to undergo an evaluation following a court hearing. Deputies attempted to stop him at the top of an escalator inside the courthouse.
During the encounter, the man allegedly struck one of the deputies, causing the two to fall down the escalator. Multiple deputies were injured while restraining the man. Three deputies were transported to area hospitals for treatment, though their conditions have not been released.
The man was taken into custody, and the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case to determine what criminal charges may be filed.
