Filipek also recalled that years ago, when Benjamin Middle School was being constructed, there was an attempt to annex homes in their area, and residents fought back at the time because of concerns over higher taxes, hookup fees for water, and added costs like garbage collection. That experience, she said, has left neighbors wary of even limited boundary changes.
City staff, however, maintain that all legal notification requirements were met. The notice was published in the Daily Herald, posted on the city website, and the item has appeared on the agenda for City Council discussion.
