A fire gutted a Winfield condominium complex .
Firefighters were called to the two-story, multifamily building on the 0N100 block of Windermere Road at about 5 a.m. Friday August 18, according to social media posts.
It has been reported an 81 year old woman succumbed to her injuries at the hospital after the fire and several others were rescued from the complex and treated for injuries sustained during the incident.
According to police, five people were rescued from eight units that caught fire and crews from the seven different fire departments were called in to help battle the fire.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the woman killed.
Fire crews were on scene for four hours after the blaze trying to get the fire out. Major damage is visible from the street.
Winfield Fire Protection officials have not yet issued any information about the blaze.
An autopsy is expected to take place today (Saturday) for the woman who perished.
