The football season for West Chicago Community High School is about to officially kick off, literally! Who doesn’t love a good Friday night lights experience in our local hometown? The echoes of the band’s music wafting across the neighborhood, fans cheering, popcorn popping and hamburgers grilling… It’s finally here again!
Last week, players faced each other in the annual scrimmage “Blue vs White” game and the season will begin at an away game rather than home.
“They [the football players] have been practicing against one another for a long time and are ready to see a different opponent. Luckily Friday’s forecast looks a little more favorable weather wise. Practice has been going well. This is the second year in our system and kids are more comfortable running our schemes. ” -Football Head Coach, Adam Chavez
They’ll get their wish to face new opponents rather than each other this Friday, August 25 as they face the Storm of South Elgin High School (the game will be played at South Elgin High School : 760 E. Main St., South Elgin)
The excitement is building, players to watch this week are: Vincent Muci, Krystian Roldan, Carter Naranjo, Tommy Doyle, Diego Contreras, and Louis Zeitler.
Players have been selling a coupon booklet produced by Adrenaline Fundraising which is a division of the Entertainment coupon books. They aim to help raise funds for the football program and there’s still another week to purchase the books. They offer 48 coupons valid at over 18 local eating establishments and businesses. This year’s first home game will happen at West Chicago’s memorial field against Bartlett High School next Friday, September 1st. Memorial field is located at 201-239 George St, West Chicago. The field was resurfaced two years ago and it’s really looking good.
Check the WCCHS website regarding the theme for the 12th man squad will be. Spirit wear will be available for purchase by the booster club at the concession stand, so don’t forget to get your gear and show your paw pride!
