The West Chicago Wildcats defeated Barlett High School Hawks in an intense game of football on Friday. The first home game was attended by many and the victory was celebrated by all. The win marks the first triumph over Bartlett High School in the history of the two schools facing off.
Highlights of the game included:
- Vincent Muci rushed for over 100 yards for the second time this season and scored two touchdowns, one of which was in overtime and won the game. Muci also had a game-saving tackle.
- Louis Zeitler had an interception and scored the first touchdown.
- Diego Contreras was the leading tackler for the Wildcat defense.
- Amari Diaz-Thomas was the standout on the D line with multiple solo tackles and tackles for losses including one in overtime.
- Carter Naranjo led the Wildcats at quarterback on their scoring drives

The West Chicago football cheerleaders, dance team, and poms performed during the game and at halftime. West Chicago’s marching band performed four songs including the school song, “We’re West Chicago”. Musical solos on trumpet were performed by George Kotke and Dominik Mohai. The halftime show is called Piano Man: The Music of Billy Joel. The dance team performed while the band played Uptown Girl.
After the varsity win, the student squad stormed the field and celebrated with the team. Unfortunately, the Freshman/Sophomore team lost 40-8.
On a side note, the Upstate 8 conference suffered a loss this week as two female students from South Elgin High School sadly were killed in an automobile accident, a moment of silence was observed before the singing of the national anthem at the onset of the game.
