The West Chicago Community High School Varsity Football Team had an awesome victory over the Elgin Maroons at Elgin High School Friday night. It was Elgin’s homecoming. The final score was 28-6.
The Wildcats just might make the state playoffs this year. It has been 9 years since the Wildcats have had 3 wins in a season, and we’re only 5 games in so far this year. The last time they had this many wins was the 2014 season when they went 3 and 6, under Ted Monken as head coach. The leadership of head football coach, Adam Chavez and his coaching staff have rallied the kids, pounded away at discipline, stressed accountability, developed the players, conditioned them up, and instilled in them a vision for victory.
Game Highlights included
- 4 touchdowns -3 by Vincent Muci, 1 by Robert Lee
- Defensively, Roman Zolota led with 4 tackles, Amari Diaz-Thomas had 1 sack and numerous quarterback pressures
- Diego Contreras had a fumble recovery caused by Allan Munoz and David Weber
- Offensive Player of the Week was awarded to Vincent Muci
- Defensive Player of The Week was awarded to Amari Diaz-Thomas
- Special Teams Player of The Week was awarded to Nazar Krailiuk
Looking ahead to the game on Friday, September 28, it is our homecoming game so there are a lot of activities leading up to the game as well as the dance over the weekend.
Each Thursday, the team eats a carb-heavy meal together. Not only is it a team bonding experience, but it also helps them nutritionally to be able to compete in the games the following day. Raising funds for the team dinners, and other team needs is always important, and the responsibility of funding has largely fallen upon parents and the booster club, help is always needed: if readers would like to donate to the team, they’ve made it easy using the Raise365 app. Download, and join the fundraiser (No. 76788947) or scan the QR code below and follow the instructions below:
