Sharks Swim Team Member Dies

Update: In a tragic turn of events, the swimmer featured in this West Chicago Voice news article sadly has died. James Oliver, a member of the West Chicago Sharks Swim Team and a freshman at Geneva High School suffered a stroke that necessitated surgery, he remained in critical condition following his hospitalization. Geneva Community High School Principal Tom Rogers announced Monday morning that the student had died.

“We received very sad news last evening that James Oliver, a freshman here at Geneva High School, has passed away,” Rogers wrote in an email to the Geneva High School student body. “James suffered an AVM stroke on Friday, Dec. 8th after swim practice and was in critical condition until the time of his passing last night. As a school community, our thoughts are with his brother, Sean, a GHS junior, his family, and friends, and our hearts are mourning this loss.”

This past Friday night, James Oliver, a West Chicago Shark currently swimming on the West Chicago High school team, had a serious medical emergency.

James had an AVM stroke and needed to be transported to Laurie Children’s Hospital by helicopter where he underwent emergency surgery.

El viernes pasado por la noche, James Oliver, un tiburón de West Chicago que actualmente nada en el equipo de la escuela secundaria de West Chicago, tuvo una emergencia médica grave.

James sufrió un derrame cerebral por MAV y tuvo que ser transportado en helicóptero al Laurie Children’s Hospital, donde fue sometido a una cirugía de emergencia.
