West Chicago, IL- Only in Illinois could the National Weather Service issue a warning about brush fires and rainstorms in the same breath. The week is off to a rainy and wet start, with 45 mph winds predicted for Monday. Tuesday however, brings a bit of a twist, and hopefully no twisters- but it’s a possibility says the National Weather Service. Despite today’s rain, there’s an elevated grass/brush fire risk east of the I-55 corridor due to high winds, the National Weather Service advised.

On Tuesday there is a threat of severe weather headed our way. Between 9am-2pm there is a thread of scattered strong- severe thunderstorms, storms could develop as early as 8am. These storms can produce lightning strikes, heavy downpours and gusty winds. Motorists are advised to drive slowly and us caution especially in areas prone to flooding. The strongest of these storms may produce damaging winds capable of downing tree limbs or fences, as well as a few brief tornadoes. Residents are urged to continue to monitor the forecast as it can change quickly.
