Claire Elizabeth Bonga, 16, of Wheaton, Illinois was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, May 30, 2024. Our precious Claire lived a beautiful and full life, cut short by a tragic car accident. She was most loved and adored by all she came across. Claire was a radiant beacon of light and joy and is remembered for her kind-hearted nature, her intentionality with others, and her servant’s heart.
Claire was born on September 21, 2007 to Bruce and Allison (Yoder) Bonga in Winfield, Illinois. She is a much adored sister of Robbie, William, and Chloe. Claire shared a special relationship with each sibling and was often credited for being the one to keep her family in line. Claire also leaves behind a beloved dog, Millie.
Claire attended Toddlers Campus, Hawthorne Elementary, Franklin Middle School, and most recently, Wheaton North High School. Claire’s presence illuminated the hallways, and she is remembered for her ability to make others laugh. Claire approached her studies with dedication and could often be found burning the midnight oil to study. Claire was also involved in tennis and enjoyed cheering on her brothers, friends, and classmates during numerous other sporting events.
Outside of school, Claire was involved in Young Life and her church youth group, HYACKS. Claire loved and followed after the LORD. Her witness touched the lives of countless individuals, leaving a legacy of faith and love.
Claire is also remembered for her love of family and friends. She cherished time spent at the family farm in Danvers and the family cottage in Michigan. Claire could always be counted on to help plan the next family vacation and was always up for a run to Starbucks, Kimmers, or Andy’s. Claire was also our little shopper and organizer. She enjoyed watching HGTV, discussing home projects, and was excited about pursuing her passion for interior design. Claire loved babysitting and took a special interest in teaching others.
Along with her parents and siblings, she is survived by her grandparents Robert & Patricia Yoder and Cynthia Bonga; aunts Beth Ann (Sam) Deal and Pam (Jon) Scott; uncles Brad (Darcie) Bonga, Chris (Katie) Bonga, Bart (Jenny) Bonga; and 18 treasured cousins. Claire is preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Dale Bonga.
We are grateful for the many memories we shared with Claire, and we greatly anticipate seeing her again in our heavenly home. Though Claire’s time on this earth was far too short, her light will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her. We find solace in the cherished time we shared and take comfort knowing that she is with Jesus.
One of Claire’s favorite verses was John 8:12, “Again, Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’”
A visitation will be Friday, June 7, from 4:00 until 8:00 pm at the College Church Commons. The celebration of Claire’s life will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, June 8, at College Church followed by a light reception and grave-side burial at Wheaton Cemetery.
Donations in Claire’s honor may be made to YoungLife Wheaton or College Church in Wheaton.
