Raymond Lyle Steele, age 91 of West Chicago, IL, passed away on September 29, 2024.

Raymond “Ray” Lyle Steele was born December 20th, 1932 to Lyle William Steele and Gladys (Larkin) Steele in Ladysmith, Wisconsin. He enlisted in the Air Force at the end of the Korean War as an engine specialist where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. Ray safely made it home in 1955, and later went to work at Pheasant Run in St Charles, IL, as a maintenance engineer until retirement in 1997. Ray married the mother of his children, Marilyn June (Decker) Steele, on July 3rd, 1963. Together, they raised four children in West Chicago, IL, – Kenneth Leroy Steele married to Sharon (Hill) Steele with children Jammie Casimir, Kyle Steele, and Wade Steele married to Tiffany (Richardson) Steele; Raelyna Nunley partnered with Leonel Tano; William Lyle Steele married to Liza (Divinagracia) Steele with daughter Rachel Steele-Groveau married to Jacob Groveau; Shane Ramon Steele married to Sheri (Rogers) Steele with children Jason, Hailey, Nathan, Joshua, and Nicholas. Dad was also a private pilot.

Marilyn and Ray divorced, and Ray joined his family with Carolyn Nied to become Carolyn Steele on June 6th, 1981, with children Lisa (Nied) Moreno married to Armando Moreno and their daughters Haleigh (Moreno) Emmett married to Timothy Emmett, and Tristen Moreno; and Charles Nied with children Decker, Jaci, Brandon, and Tyler. All became one larger family joined together by true love from Nana and Grampie. Both enjoyed gardening, lawn work, the outdoors and being with family. Ray is superseded in death by both his wife and ex-wife, brother Bill, sister Bernice, and parents. Ray is survived by all his children and grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, his sisters Dorothy, Margorie, Shirley, Patricia, and Jean. We are blessed for having all of our parents and stepparents for as long as we did. May we share our love with each other as they did with all of us.

A Memorial Visitation for Raymond will be held at DuPage Funeral Chapel (951 W. Washington Street, West Chicago) on Saturday, October 12, 2024, from 1-3 PM with a service beginning at 3 PM. The service will be live streamed below for those unable to attend in person.
