Wheaton Academy Mourns the Loss of Sophomore Joseph Platt

Sharing is Caring, WeGo!

WEST CHICAGO – The Wheaton Academy community is grieving the tragic loss of sophomore student and standout athlete Joseph Thomas Platt, who passed away in a car accident on January 28 in South Elgin.

Platt, known as Joe to his friends and teammates, was a dedicated wide receiver for Wheaton Academy’s football team and a beloved member of the school community. His sudden passing has left a profound impact on his family, friends, and classmates, who are struggling to come to terms with the heartbreaking loss.

According to authorities, the accident occurred at the intersection of Stearns Road, where the vehicle struck a pole. Traffic on Stearns Road was temporarily closed but reopened later that evening.

Among those mourning Joe’s passing is Anthony J. Lombardo, a fellow student at Wheaton Academy, who expressed the deep sadness felt throughout the school. “Joseph was a beloved member of our school family. While everyone grieves his passing, there is comfort in knowing that he is now at peace with his Lord and Savior,” Lombardo shared.

Wheaton Academy has announced that details for a memorial service will be shared soon, providing an opportunity for family, friends, and classmates to come together to honor his life and celebrate the legacy he leaves behind.

The thoughts and prayers of the community are with Joe’s family during this incredibly difficult time. Wheaton Academy and the surrounding community will continue to stand by them, offering love and support as they navigate their grief.
