West Chicago American Legion Post 300 Seeks Community Support for Urgent Repairs

Sharing is Caring, WeGo!

For nearly 75 years, West Chicago American Legion Post 300 has proudly served local veterans and the surrounding community. Now, after decades of dedication and hardship—especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic—the historic organization is calling on the community it’s long supported to lend a hand in return.

Post 300, located in the heart of downtown West Chicago, has been a staple of local civic life for more than 50 years. But the aging facility is in urgent need of repairs. According to a new GoFundMe launched by organizer Steve Doggett, the building requires a full HVAC system replacement, major plumbing repairs, and critical restroom updates to remain functional and accessible.

“We were hit hard by COVID,” the fundraiser states. “We are in need to replace our HVAC unit and address several plumbing issues, plus we need to update our restrooms.”

With a modest goal of $2,600, the campaign has raised just $245 so far from four donors. The Legion hopes that with greater awareness, the community will rally behind the cause and help preserve the vital gathering space for future generations of veterans and residents.
