WEST CHICAGO, Ill. — The West Chicago Police Department continues to lead in DUI enforcement across Illinois, earning the number three spot in the state for total DUI arrests in 2024, according to a newly released report by the Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists (AAIM).
The department recorded 269 DUI arrests in 2024, a 31.2% increase from the prior year’s total of 205. The data places West Chicago just behind Aurora and Rockford—two much larger cities—in overall DUI enforcement.
“The officers of the West Chicago Police Department are dedicated to ensuring the safety of everyone on our roadways,” said Chief Colin Fleury. “In 2023, we achieved an impressive 184% increase in DUI arrests. In 2024, we made further progress with an additional 31% increase, making us the third leading department in DUI arrests, behind the much larger cities of Aurora and Rockford.”
The department’s effectiveness is even more notable considering its size—just 47 sworn officers—giving West Chicago one of the highest DUI arrest rates per officer in the state, at 5.72.
“I am incredibly proud of the commitment and hard work our officers demonstrate every day,” Fleury said. “My hope is that one day our arrest numbers will decrease, not because we are less vigilant, but because drivers will fully understand the dangers of drinking and driving.”
AAIM’s annual survey, now in its 34th year, tracks DUI enforcement across Illinois municipalities. West Chicago also stood out for individual performance. Officer Blake Bertany was named one of the state’s top six officers for DUI enforcement, with 100 arrests in 2024.
Other notable West Chicago officers contributing to the department’s strong showing include Officer Adam Chapman with 78 arrests, and Officers Nathan Hunt, Daniel Schane, and Joe McGuire, each contributing significantly.
