WEST CHICAGO, IL — The streets of downtown West Chicago are alive with color and creativity this summer as the 2025 Art Banner Exhibit brings 17 original works of art to Main Street. Stretching from Washington Street to Wilson Avenue, the exhibit transforms light poles into open-air galleries, offering locals and visitors alike a chance to experience the region’s artistic talent—free of charge.
Organized annually by the West Chicago Cultural Arts Commission, the exhibit features a juried selection of regional artists whose work reflects this year’s theme: “Sustenance/Sustento.” From bold abstracts to detailed illustrations, each banner interprets the concept of nourishment, both literal and symbolic, through the unique lens of the artist.
This year’s juror, West Chicago artist David Linneweh, handpicked the pieces for display. Linneweh—a painter, educator, and founder of the artist interview platform Studio Break—has been a West Chicago resident since 2021 and is known for his support of the local arts community.
The public is invited to take part in the exhibit by voting for their favorite banner online for the 2025 People’s Choice Award. Votes can be submitted through the City’s official website at westchicago.org/artbannerexhibit, where photos of all 17 banners are available for viewing. The exhibit runs through the last week of August, giving residents plenty of time to take a stroll downtown, snap a few photos, and weigh in.
