Due to multiple holes in the roof and water damage throughout, the new owner of 216 E. Grandlake initiated the demolition of the “fixer-upper” advertised home. The home had been on the market for a while and it was sold via a real estate auction to a private party.

Despite rumors around town, the City of West Chicago had nothing to do with the home being demolished. It was owner-initiated. A new home is slated to be built on the site of the previous home which was originally constructed in 1878.
The home was located just outside the two designated historic districts in West Chicago and it was not an individually landmark or historically marked home.
