West Chicago Police Report: Multiple DUI Arrests Made in Late August
The West Chicago Police Department reported a series of DUI arrests in the final week of August, involving drivers from Carol Stream, Elgin, Wisconsin, and West Chicago. In several cases, motorists were also charged with speeding, improper lane usage, or operating uninsured vehicles. Breath tests ranged from just over the legal limit to more than twice the allowable level, and one case involved a crash with utility lines. All defendants were arrested, processed at the West Chicago Police Department, and released with pending court dates.

A 44-year-old Carol Stream woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence following a traffic stop in West Chicago.
According to police, the incident occurred on Sunday, August 24, 2025, around 9:30 p.m. An officer on traffic patrol observed a Toyota Prius traveling eastbound on Washington Street at 50 mph in a 35 mph zone. The vehicle was stopped near Geneva Street and Sunset Avenue.
Upon speaking with the driver, officers reported smelling alcohol and conducted field sobriety tests, which the driver did not pass. The driver provided a breath sample measuring 0.105, above the legal limit of 0.08. She was taken into custody, processed at the West Chicago Police Department, and charged with two counts of DUI and one count of speeding between 11 and 15 mph over the limit.
The woman was later released after being provided with all required paperwork.

A 36-year-old man listed as a non-resident with ties to Mexico, but also providing a home address in Elgin, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in West Chicago.
The arrest took place on August 25, 2025, around 1:20 a.m. when police observed a black BMW sedan weaving across lanes on Route 59 near Willow Lane. Officers said the driver, identified as Jose V. Ambriz Barrera, failed to maintain his lane and nearly struck a curb before being stopped.
Police reported that Ambriz exhibited bloodshot, glassy eyes, slurred speech, and a strong odor of alcohol. He admitted to drinking two beers. Field sobriety tests showed signs of impairment, and a preliminary breath test registered 0.151 BAC, nearly double the legal limit of 0.08.
Ambriz was taken into custody, transported to the West Chicago Police Department, and charged with two counts of DUI and improper lane usage. He was later released after being provided all necessary paperwork, including notice of summary suspension and court information.

A 44-year-old Elgin man was charged with driving under the influence, speeding, and failing to display registration plates after a late-night traffic stop in West Chicago.
On August 27, 2025, shortly after midnight, police observed a red Porsche Macan traveling 60 mph in a 45 mph zone near Roosevelt Road and Kress Road. The vehicle was missing registration plates on both the front and rear.
When officers made contact with the driver, they detected a strong odor of alcohol, along with bloodshot eyes and glassy appearance. The driver initially admitted to drinking two beers but later said he had consumed three pints and a shot earlier in the evening. Field sobriety tests showed multiple signs of impairment, and he was placed under arrest.
The man was charged with DUI, speeding 15–20 mph over the statutory limit, and no registration plates displayed. He was processed at the West Chicago Police Department and released on a recognizance bond. His next court date is scheduled for September 26, 2025.

Kowalski performed poorly on field sobriety tests and refused to provide a breath sample both at the scene and at the station. He was placed under arrest and transported to the West Chicago Police Department.
Kowalski was charged with DUI, improper lane usage, and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle. He was booked, photographed, fingerprinted, and later released with all necessary paperwork and court information.

A 42-year-old West Chicago woman was arrested and charged after a high-speed crash led to a DUI investigation.
On August 30, 2025, just before midnight, police observed a white Buick Enclave traveling at 83 mph in a 45 mph zone on Route 59 near Garys Mill Road. The vehicle lost control and struck utility pole wires before continuing at a high rate of speed and eventually stopping near Augusta Avenue and Gates Street.
Officers said the driver showed bloodshot eyes, a strong odor of alcohol, and flustered behavior. She admitted to drinking and later provided two breath samples — one reading 0.166 BAC and another at 0.127 BAC, both above the legal limit.
She was charged with two counts of DUI, speeding more than 35 mph over the limit, improper lane usage, improper turn, and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. She was processed at the West Chicago Police Department and released on a recognizance bond with a court date set for October 10, 2025.

A 29-year-old West Chicago man was arrested after crashing into another vehicle while attempting to back out of a liquor store parking lot.
Police responded to Arbor Liquors on Arbor Avenue shortly after midnight on August 17, 2025, and found the driver had struck another car. Officers reported that the man exhibited bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, swaying, and a strong odor of alcohol. He admitted to drinking but struggled to complete field sobriety tests.
The man provided two breath samples registering 0.204 BAC and 0.205 BAC, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08.
He was charged with DUI, operating a motor vehicle without a valid license, and improper backing. He was processed at the West Chicago Police Department and later released with a pending court date.
A 63-year-old Chicago man was arrested after police said he was driving significantly below the speed limit and weaving across lanes in West Chicago.
The stop took place on August 17, 2025, just after 12:30 a.m., when officers observed a black Honda Civic traveling 25 mph in a 45 mph zone on Route 38 near Joliet Street. The vehicle drifted over the lane line before coming to an abrupt stop.
Officers reported the driver exhibited slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and a strong odor of alcohol. He admitted to having a couple of drinks earlier in the evening after performing music. Field sobriety tests showed several signs of impairment.
The man provided two breath samples registering 0.158 BAC and 0.159 BAC. He was charged with two counts of DUI and improper lane usage, processed at the West Chicago Police Department, and later released with a court date set for September 12, 2025.
A 38-year-old Aurora man was arrested on multiple charges after police said he was driving erratically on Route 59 near Joliet Street.
The incident took place just before 1:00 a.m. on August 18, 2025, when officers observed a Nissan traveling at 33 mph in a 45 mph zone, weaving and veering off onto the shoulder.
The driver admitted to drinking earlier and exhibited slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and a strong odor of alcohol. Field sobriety tests showed signs of impairment, and breath samples registered 0.100 BAC and 0.092 BAC.
He was charged with two counts of DUI, improper lane usage, driving with expired license plates, and driving without a registration light. He was processed at the West Chicago Police Department and later released with a court date of September 26, 2025.
Chicago Man Arrested for DUI in West Chicago
A 41-year-old man from Chicago was arrested in West Chicago on the evening of August 19, 2025, following a traffic stop near Roosevelt Road and Kautz Road.
According to police reports, officers observed a blue Toyota Corolla weaving within its lane and making abrupt movements before being pulled over. Upon approaching the vehicle, officers noted signs of impairment and detected the odor of alcohol.
The driver, identified as a 41-year-old Chicago man, admitted to consuming alcohol prior to driving. During the investigation, officers also located an open container of alcohol inside the vehicle.

Warrenville Man with Texas License Arrested for Aggravated DUI in West Chicago
West Chicago police arrested a 45-year-old Warrenville man early Friday morning on charges of aggravated driving under the influence after observing his vehicle swerving and speeding along Route 59.
According to police reports, the man was driving a gray GMC Acadia near IL Route 59 and Glen Avenue around 1:20 a.m. on August 22, 2025, when officers clocked him traveling 66 mph in a 45-mph zone. Officers reported that his vehicle crossed over the center lane multiple times before pulling into a parking lot near Neltnor Boulevard.
Upon approaching the driver, officers detected a strong odor of alcohol and noted his bloodshot, glassy eyes. Police also reported finding open cans of Budweiser inside the vehicle. The man admitted to drinking earlier in the night but initially refused to perform certain field sobriety tests. A subsequent breath test indicated a blood alcohol concentration of 0.244, more than three times the legal limit.
Further checks revealed the driver’s Illinois license was suspended, and his criminal history included two previous DUI arrests in Texas and one prior DUI in Illinois. Prosecutors approved one count of aggravated DUI/license suspended, along with charges for improper lane usage, speeding, and illegal transportation of alcohol.
The driver was processed, fingerprinted, and later released on a recognizance bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on September 26, 2025.
